For everyone who wants to keep their data private and confidential. AItao lets you query and retrieve your documents naturally, without opening another application. Most “free” cloud AIs may use your conversations to train their models — and their terms change without asking you. AItao runs strictly on your machine. We don’t collect usage analytics either. AItao works with the chat application of your choice.

Invoices, contracts, administrative mail, archives: important documents often end up as scanned PDFs or photos — invisible to any classic search.
With OCR Premium, AItao reads them for you, without ever sending them online:

Frequently asked questions
Are my documents sent to the Internet?
No. Everything stays local. AItao only reads your documents and stores a copy in a local database powered by Meilisearch (the search database). When you ask the model a question, it queries that database, not your original files.
One exception: the Premium module checks a public list of cancelled licence keys once a day. This check sends nothing about you or your documents, and AItao keeps working normally if it fails.
What is the difference between free and Premium?
Free: all text-based files — .txt, .info, .md and text-based PDFs. Premium (annual licence): Office files (.odt, .docx, .xlsx, .pptx), scanned PDFs and images containing text (OCR).
Does it work offline?
Yes. AItao runs fully offline once the dependencies, Meilisearch and your LLM model(s) are downloaded.
What can I use to chat with AItao?
Any OpenAI-compatible application of your choice, for example:
- OnlyOffice (recommended)
- LM Studio
- Open WebUI
- AnythingLLM
Does the OCR read Traditional Chinese?
Yes. AItao is optimized for Traditional Chinese.
Which operating systems are supported?
AItao is built in Python and runs on macOS (optimized) and Windows 11 64-bit. The OCR Premium option is available on macOS for now.
Can I stop part-way through the year?
Yes. We refund the remaining months pro rata, and your Premium key is deactivated. The free version keeps working, and your indexed data stays yours.
How it works
Our policy is to build on open-source components:
